Humanoids at Waseda University
Although in the U.S., military robots and home appliance robots are well talked about, humaoid robots are the big thing in Japan. Honda's ASIMO and Sony's QRIO are probably the most well-known outside of the country but the first humanoid robot was developed by a team at Waseda University in the early 1970s. Here is a link to a site that describes all the robotics related research done at the school. It's in English! The Takanishi Lab is where they do a lot of humanoid research.
