お～～これは！フランスのアルデバラン・ロボティクスが中心となって同国で開発が進められている大型のヒューマノイド・ロボット「Romeo（ロミオ）」がようやく姿を現した。Plastic Palsより。
このロミオについては2009年9月に初めて記事にしました。そして2010年の「Humanoids 2010」の会議では、スライドが紹介されていた。
スライドは漫画チックと思っていたが、実物も漫画チックな顔ですね。（だれかに似てる。）
まだ立てないのかな？でも2012年に本格デビューするみたい。
DARwIn-OPがアイスホッケーしてる。まだたいしてうまくないのだけれど、ちゃんと足にスケートのブレードつけてるのがかわいい！
ロボットの大きな学会、ICRA 2012で、DARwIn-OPのアプリケーション開発コンテストがあるのですね。ほかにどんなアプリケーション＆動画が出てくるのか楽しみ。Robots Dreamsより。
ロボットのホッケーといえばこっちも楽しそう。こちらはRoboNexusから。
ドイツDLRが開発したヒト型ロボット「Justin」は、ロボットの世界ではボールをキャッチできることで有名。そこで今度はボールを投げることのできる「弟」、「Justin Agile」を開発し、2台にキャッチボールをさせたという。以下の動画のとおり。

日本では映画「ロボジー」が流行っているようだが、米国ではユタ州で開催中のサンダンス映画祭で公開されたロボット映画「Robot and Frank」が話題になっている。
認知症が進みつつある男性フランクと、息子が押し付けてきたお手伝いロボットの関係を題材にした映画で、例えばWIREDは「Robot and Frank Shows Softer Side of Robo-Helpers」（ロボット・ヘルパーの優しい面を見せる映画）という見出しで紹介している。
この記事の書き出しがいかにもアメリカらしい。「Not every robot helper ultimately turns into a vengeful Cylon. That’s the message of Robot and Frank....」（どのロボット・ヘルパーもみんな最終的に復讐心に燃えるサイロン[米SFシリーズの架空キャラクター]に変身するわけではない。それが『Robot and Frank』のメッセージだ）
以下の場面は、フランクが食べたいものを食べさせてくれないロボットに反発しているところ。ロボットは、自分は執事ではなく、「health care aid」（健康管理人）だと主張する。フランクが言うことを聞かないので、ロボットが息子と連絡を取ろうとし、それに対してフランクが「何やってんだ。その頭の中に電話があるのか」とやり取りする部分がおかしい。
Inside Moviesにもっと詳しい内容紹介があり、それによると、フランクは実は過去に犯罪歴があり、ロボットを相棒に盗みをはたすという展開に（！）。フランクが恋心を寄せる図書館員の女性のために貴重な古本を盗むらしい。そして最後のほうは、いっしょに住むことになった娘がロボットの電源を切る場面があり、それに対してフランクは寂しそうだが、エンディングについては不明。
このあたりで上映されることになれば、ぜひ見に行きたい。
身長6フィート（180cm）、体重100－200ポンド（45－90kg）の新しいヒューマノイドを開発中のベンチャー企業があるという。名前はNordstrom Robotics。
LinkedInのPersonal Robotics Groupで同社の創業者のJames Nordstrom氏がコメントしていることで知った。低価格で耐久性のある、大人サイズのヒューマノイドを開発中という。最初の商品「HAAP」（Humanoid as a Platform）を25,000ドルで今年末から来年初めにかけて発売したいとのことだ。アプリケーションはファーストフード店や工場の従業員、ガードマンなど。

My company Nordstrom Robotics is developing a low cost, durable, full size Humanoid. Our initial development has been focused on the physical robot (hardware, motors, sensors, etc.) as opposed to the operating software. We have started to look at a number of open source projects such as ROS but are starting to think of releasing an initial product called HAAP (Humanoid As A Platform) that would enable developers to develop their one operating software. HAAP would come with a base event driven software stack (sensor data, limb position, etc.) and an API to controls the limbs. I wanted to ask the community if you would be interested in the HAAP platform and the hardware features you would like to see. Here are some of the planed specs: 6 feet tall, 150/200 pounds, reproduces 80% of human range of motion, 50% faster and stronger than the average human, day/night vision, resilient to shock and impact, made of high impact durable plastics and weather resistant (Water, extreme cold/heat and sand proof models available soon). Electronics: 360 degree cameras with optical and digital zoom, stereo/night vision and thermal imaging, dual microphones for audio input, speakers for speech, bidirectional long range audio/video transmission, limb position sensors, temperature sensors, accelerometers and gyroscopes, pressure sensors (touch), GPS, motor controllers, x86 processors and SSD hard drives. The estimated unit cost will be around $25,000.
