ロボット市場狙う台湾メーカー

　ロイター通信伝で「Taiwan gadget makers tool up for robotics」（台湾の機器メーカーがロボット市場に備える）という記事が英国の日刊紙Guardianに出ている。Robot Stock Newsを通じて知った。

Taiwan aims to take a 7 percent share of the global robotics market and exports worldwide worth T$250 billion ($7.5 billion) by 2015, according to Taiwan's Precision Machinery Research & Development Center.

Taiwan's top electronics parts maker, Hon Hai Precision, wants to follow in their footsteps by teaming up with U.S. toymaker Ugobe to make and sell Pleo, a robot dinosaur toy that can be taught to beg for food and wag its tail.

After five years of research and development, MSI and Japan's Speecys are also set to jointly launch "NNR-1", a humanoid that can talk, perform kung fu and distinguish human faces.

The 20 cm-tall walking robot would carry either the MSI or Speecys brand and start trooping off showrooms floors early next year with a retail price of $699.　At that price, about the same as a typical cheaper laptop PC, the companies may not see mass sales but they hope to make their names known.　"If we can make robots, customers will have more confidence in our technology, our brand and our other products. After all, robots are more complicated than computers and mobile phones," MSI's Chen said.　"We want to build an image and tell the world that we can do design, manufacturing, marketing and sales."

Component makers are also getting in on the act, with names like VIA Technologies and DMP Electronics developing new chips for robots.
