Trower氏、マイクロソフト退社し、ロボット・ベンチャーを設立

 Tandy Trowerさんって覚えてます？一時はマイクロソフトのロボット関連事業の「顔」だった方で、日本でも講演などを通じてご存知の方も多いと思います。今日、たまたまWikipediaを見ていたら、なんと、彼はいつの間にかマイクロソフトを退社していたことを発見！Wikipediaの最後の部分をご覧ください。昨年11月に退社となっています。びっくり～！！

　しかも、「Hoaloha Robotics」という名のロボットのベンチャー企業を設立していました。この会社のウエブサイトは見つからなかったのですが、彼のLinkedInのページを見てみたら、以下のような記述がありました。

 After 28 years at Microsoft, I resigned to pursue what may be one of the greatest and most important opportunities for applying emergent personal robotic; i.e. assistive care. With an increasing demand for healthcare and spiraling costs, fueled in part by a growing senior population (who are also living longer), commensurate increasing shortage of caregivers, digital technologies can play an important part in addressing these challenges. Within this ecosystem, personal care robots can help address physical, cognitive, and social loss of function, and enable individuals to better manage their wellness and quality of life in the same way that PC technologies and the Web can extend and enhance information access, productivity, and general well-being.

　要約すると「私はマイクロソフトに28年間勤めた後、パーソナル・ロボット技術のアプリケーションとして最も有望と思われるassistive care（介護支援）の分野を追求するべく、退任した。人口の高齢化などによってヘルスケアの需要とコストは増大しており、介護人の不足が深刻化している。デジタル技術はこうした問題の解決に役立つ。パーソナル・ケア・ロボットは身体的、認知、そして社会的機能が失われた場合の支援をし、個々人が健康と生活の質をよりよく維持するのに役立つ。これはちょうどパソコンとウエブが情報へのアクセスや生産性、全体的な生活の質の改善につながったのと同じようなことだ。」
